Engineering a hybrid vehicle involves meeting many new challenges. New components are integrated into the engineering process in such a way that the quality of the hybrid vehicle corresponds in all intents and purposes to a conventional vehicle. We develop integrated hybrid drives and adapt existing conventional drives and view ourselves one of the pioneers in the realisation of hybrid concepts in the automotive industry.
The integration of electrical components in the drive train used in hybrid vehicles has profound influences on the overall system of the vehicle. Being a member of the AVL Group we benefit from the collective procedural knowledge available. In this way we successfully find solutions for the production in series to be developed.
Hybrid drives combine three different aspects which manufacturers assess in different ways: fuel consumption reduction, emission reduction and the „fun to drive“ factor. California takes reduction of fuel consumption very seriously indeed and has legal provisions in place to limit automobile pollution. In Germany emission requirements of vehicles are becoming more and more severe as well. Our task is to adapt to these changes and offer solutions which minimise conflict of objectives and combine all design criterion in the best possible way.
The interaction of new and modified components and sub-systems can be considered a priority in the complex interconnection functions related to consumption and emissions reduction. The future of the hybrid drive is to be seen in the realisation of economically feasible and integrative solutions for the series production. We consider that we have met those criteria and are now developing hybrid concepts for many prestigious automobile manufacturers worldwide.
